INNOVATIVE LEARNING SPACE

AUTHOR BACKGROUND

My name is Jesse Kemling. I grew up in Waterloo, IL, but I currently reside in the Benton Park area of St. Louis. This is my second semester at Fontbonne, where I'm pursuing my Master's in Instructional Design & Technology.

I work full time as the Senior Educator of Technology at the Saint Louis Science Center. I spend most of my time developing curriculum in technology-based areas such as coding, 3D printing, app development, graphic design, videography, and more.

My goal is to become the best instructional designer I can be. I really like using cool software, so I would like to work on projects that integrate photo/video. Ultimately, I want to work for Google or one of the amazing companies owned by Elon Musk.

OVERVIEW

I have been tasked to create innovative space for my students and staff. This innovative space needs new and emerging technologies to support teaching/training and learning. Implementation of current trends in learning space design is a must.  My design should be based on learning principles that support social and active learning strategies.

EVALUATION

I would evaluate the effectiveness of space by giving assessments to the users of the space. Asking things like:

  • Does the new learning space help you concentrate?

  • How can we improve the learning space to fit your needs?

  • What is your favorite aspect of the learning space?

I believe user feedback is monumentally important in this case. Everyone learns differently, so the feedback of your learning space's users will generate the best ideas for how to improve the space in the future.
