New Hire Learning Path Initiative

Bringing eLearning to training

Since 2020, our credit union has had to make creative use of our available resources in order to bring our new hire training to the virtual space. We made videos using screen cast, leaned heavily on the expertise of our trainers, and began delivering content in ways we had never done before. It became very clear that we needed to strengthen our eLearning so we began the New Hire Learning Path Initiative to improve our learning path.

In Phase One of the initiative, we reevaluated all of our training courses and developed robust storyboards for each of the trainings we offer to new hires, bringing in several subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to get the content of the courses approved. This year, we have begun Phase Two and our goal is to action the development of these courses within Articulate Rise 360.

The Share Accounts module is the first course our new hires take. It's an essential study of all the products we offer at the credit union. Below we have outlined the course objectives and interactions that we have embedded within this project to bring it into the modern training world.

Articulate Rise 360

The credit union has been employing the use of the Articulate Rise course since 2021 to bring a cohesive and functional learning path to our new hires.

All courses in Phase Two will be hosted on a Rise course, however other tools such as Illustrator and Camtasia may be used to embed interactive elements like videos, info graphics, and animated gifs.

Course Interactions

One of the critical elements of Rise that make it so attractive to us as trainers is the interactivity options. Apart from the general interactivity of accordions, tabs, and process interactions, certain lessons within the course have formative assessments.

Connections to Training

In the example to the right, we have embedded a sorting activity based on the Savings Account lesson. The reason we have included this is to connect their learning to the activities they will be participating in during the synchronous portions of their trainings. This way, when they meet with their trainer, we can be sure that they have been provided with an adequate amount of background information.

Evaluations

Knowledge Checks

Apart from the few formative assessments we provide our learners throughout the training, we also end the module with a final quiz.

We created six questions that range in modality, including multiple choice, fill in the blank, and select all that apply. On several questions we provided feedback to participants in order to guide their thinking if they need to retake the quiz.

The goal of the assessment is to make sure learners walk away with the essential information they will need to adequately participate in their onboarding training and, further, into their role within the credit union.
