Overview

The scenario that I selected has to do with text based manuals, powerpoints, and outdated videos all being used and not improving. There needs to be a better and more interactive way to speak to our listeners and learners. This is for teachers, trainers, and instructors for grades K-12.

    Research

Research has shown that most teachers today are struggling to keep up with the new technology that enhances the perfomance of learners. "A new study finds that undergraduate students in classes with traditional stand-and-deliver lectures are 1.5 times more likely to fail than students in classes that use more stimulating, so-called active learning methods" (Bajak 2014). Students now have access to technology at all times. They will become bored and not be able attention unless there is better interaction with them.

iPads can be a great way to interact with the students. It will provide better communication while keeping the students' attention. Not only is the communication better, but students can read and do assignments with the iPads. "The iPad in the classroom brings education to life. Children have endless access to valuable information such as a dictionary and thesaurus, which previously were only available in printed format. Interactive technology makes learning more engaging and memorable. Tools such as audio and video recorders can change the way that learning takes place and homework is completed"("iPads in the Classrom," 2010).

The students love using technology in the classroom. The problem isn't teaching the students to use the iPads and technology; it's the teachers that need the instruction to implement this into their classroom. With the boom in technology and how students love to use it, w e must encourage every teacher to convert to using technology to get the students interested and involved. It is because of this that we developed a plan to train teachers to learn how to use the new technology.

We started with holding a mandatory meeting after school for all of the instructors. The teachers viewed videos of how to use new technologies, such as iPads for their classes. After they viewed the videos, they were able to practice and play around with the devices on their own. Now that they were more familiar with the technology, it was time to get them to practice in a classroom situation.

    Evaluation

Over the next few days, we would have a group of teachers practice in front of us to see how well they could instruct using the new technology. If they knew how to use the new technology in a classroom, we would let them start using it. If the teachers failed, they would continue to come for more training after school until they could effectively teach using the new technology.

Criteria that they need to do in order to pass.

    • Teacher uses the resources provided by the school such as iPads.

    • Teacher can thoroughrly explain how to use iPads to students.

    • Teacher can teach from the iPad with no problems.

    • Teacher can navigate through the iPad.

    • Teacher uses iPads to develop activities for the students.

    • Teacher uses iPads to develop tests and assignments.

    • Teacher is able to grade correctly using iPads.

    • Teacher is able to effectively grab the attention of the students using iPads.

    • Teacher is able to develop a great video presentation for the students.

    • Teacher is able to use the iPad to speak with students out of the classroom via Skype or Facetime.

They will be evaluated based on how well they are able to interact with us while using the technology. If we feel that they can effectively teach the students, they no longer need training. We will have a grading scale for them, and they must get an 80% or above. Meeting 8 out of 10 of these requirements will show that the teachers are able to effectively teach the students.
